In July, I had the pleasure of chaperoning 40 students to their graduation in London as part of this year's National Saturday Club (NSC). This included a visit to their showcase at Somerset House, where we saw the final installations from the Film and Media, Art and Design, and Fashion and Business groups. The exhibition was really impressive and showed the dedication that they had put in over the past year of weekends, especially considering that many of the group were taking their GCSE's this summer.

I was able to get involved through the Student Ambassador scheme back in February, as they were looking for someone to teach scriptwriting to the Film and Media NSC group. It was perfectly timed, as I had just completed my scriptwriting module at Falmouth University! After that first week, I ended up being 'on call' for the group, assisting with their planning, filming and editing to see their short films all the way through from conception to completion.

The graduation saw all of the NSC groups based at Falmouth University come together and travel up to London to share their work with other groups from across the country. It was only as we heard all the speeches from club leaders and saw the endless list of names in the event's brochure that we realised the extent of the creative network we were part of!

More about the National Saturday Club:

'Young people across the country are spending Saturday mornings at their local university, college or museum discovering subjects they love. Saturday Clubs are open to 13–16-year-olds of all abilities and are free to attend.'

'Joining the National Saturday Club is a unique opportunity to learn new skills, discover talents, meet new people, and find out more about further education, higher education and rewarding careers.'
