Gentle, Angry Women is the latest documentary by award-winning Cornish film company Awen Productions CIC. The story follows three young women as they retrace the march to Greenham Common, forty years on from the first Women’s Peace Protests.

Over the past year, I've had the priviledge of leading the national press strategy for the film as it tours the UK, crafting press releases for newspapers and magazines, co-ordinating radio interviews, and arranging media placement. Following successful screenings in over fifty locations, the film has recently won the Celtic Media Festival award for History (Screen) at this year's awards ceremony in Ireland.

As press and publicity officer, I manage the @folklifefilms Instagram account, home of Gentle, Angry Women and our documentary branch, alongside the broader social media strategy for Awen Productions.

Designing eye-catching graphics, editing reels, and creating timely content plans are all key elements of my role - there's far more to it than just hitting 'post' and hoping for the best.

Providing genuine connection through outreach and collaboration is fundamental to organic growth and reaching audiences who not only engage with the content, but will go onto purchase tickets and help to spread the word in their local communities.

It's been brilliant to see the growth across our social media platforms over the past year as the film tour connects with audiences in the UK and beyond, from Oxford Human Rights Festival in England, to the Anti-Military Association in Iceland.

My role has now grown to encompass designing content for @awenproductionscic on the company's main account, such as our 'Meet the Team' carousels below, celebrating 20 years of Awen Productions. This involved condensing achievements from across the organisation into engaging short snapshots of our work, encouraging viewers to visit our website to take a deep dive into the full project stories.

Alongside my digital work, I enjoy the chance to represent the company in-person. I hosted the premiere of Gentle, Angry Women on International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, facilitating a live Q&A with the film's director.

Last month, I headed to London as a Production Assistant for an upcoming short documentary... watch this space!
